Professional Layout for Unity

The default Unity layout leaves something to be desired. Thankfully, the UI is extremely customizable, allowing full control of your setup.

By default, the Scene window (where you interact with game objects) and the Game window (where you can see things happening in real time from the perspective of the game camera) are on two tabs of the same window, meaning you have to switch tabs to see how your interactions affect the game.

This is less than ideal, and is a simple fix. By splitting the two tabs into separate windows, you can see things happening in real time as you make changes.

You can even save different configurations that might work better for different development environments. When building a mobile app, it may be beneficial to change the Scene and Game views to a horizontal orientation.

Now that we have a basic understanding of how our tools work, its finally time to learn how to really use them!
